What We Do

Preventing and Ending Homelessness in Clark County

At Council for the Homeless, our mission is simple and urgent: to prevent and end homelessness in Clark County. We achieve this by connecting individuals and families to housing, equipping service providers with essential resources and skills, and engaging the entire community in meaningful solutions.

Helping People Find Housing & Support

We deliver and coordinate services for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness to ensure everyone gets the right help as quickly as possible.

As a member, you can:

  • Housing Hotline: Open 7 days per week, providing available shelter and housing assistance resources.
  • Coordinated Outreach: Meeting people outside to build trust and help them take steps toward having a home and critical support.
  • Housing Coordination & Diversion: Matching individuals to the most effective housing solutions for their situation.
  • Service Navigation: Helping people connect to critical resources and services.

While demand exceeds available resources, our coordinated approach maximizes impact, ensuring services are accessible, equitable, and effective.

An overhead photo shows the 20+ community partners who are tabling a Project Homeless Connect event, which is held annually. This event is for people experiencing homelessness, and offers free health care services, help with filling out housing request forms, pet care, and provides food and clothing and supplies.

Supporting Housing Program Service Providers

A strong network of housing agencies is crucial for moving people from crisis to stability. We support 47 agencies in Clark County with the tools they need to deliver effective services and understand their impact.

  • Homeless Management Information System (HMIS): We administer this centralized data system, enabling providers to track services and identify trends and funders to understand program impacts.
  • Direct Housing Placements: We help people in crisis prepare to begin in one of our 14 partner agency-run housing programs. This means helping people secure their income, replace and gather necessary documents, and locate available housing.
  • Collaboration & Training: Through workgroups, trainings, and quality improvement initiatives, we strengthen provider capacity.
  • Securing Funding: By submitting an annual group application to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, we bring millions of federal dollars to local programs to serve our community.

Our goal is for  housing services to be  coordinated, data-driven, and impactful.

Engaging & Educating the Community

Homelessness affects all of us, and lasting solutions demand community involvement. We inspire engagement through education, advocacy, and collaboration.

  • Data & Storytelling: Sharing real stories and statistics that highlight both challenges and effective responses
    to homelessness.
  • Annual Report: Publishing critical insights on local homelessness trends and progress.
  • Advocacy & Policy: Working with elected officials and community leaders to champion proven solutions to prevent and end homelessness.
  • Education & Outreach: Offering training, resources, and myth-busting tools for businesses, faith groups, neighborhood associations, and the general community.
  • Events & Initiatives: Empowering the public to take action through programs like the Homeless Action Plan, Project Homeless Connect, Everybody IN campaign, and Gathering for Change, our biggest fundraiser and community building gathering of the year.

By turning understanding into action, we can create lasting solutions that end homelessness in Clark County.
