Update on SHB 1570 from Andy Silver, CFTH Executive Director:

We are so sad to relay that our top priority for this year’s state legislative session (SHB 1570) is not moving forward. SHB 1570 would have avoided a scheduled 62% cut to homelessness funding in 2019 AND it would have allowed each county to increase funding for homeless services up to double the current level. Instead, the state senate and house last night passed 5254, which merely delays the 62% cut for four years and provides no new investment in homeless services. At a time when housing prices and homelessness are rapidly increasing, our state legislature has turned its back. This is a slap in the face to every child trying to get a night’s sleep in a car tonight. We thank all who advocated to their elected officials on behalf of 1570 and commend Congresswoman Monica Jurado Stonier of the 49th District for voting “no” on 5254. We call on our local representatives to right this incredible wrong next year.
